Synopsis
Man of Steel (2013) is the Warner Bros. and DC origin story for Superman — watch it online on iFILM. Directed by Zack Snyder and produced by Christopher Nolan, the film runs 143 minutes and grossed over $668 million worldwide on a $225 million budget.
Kal-El is launched from a dying Krypton as an infant, landing in Kansas to grow up as Clark Kent. Kevin Costner and Diane Lane play the adoptive parents who spend years teaching him to hide what he can do. When Kryptonian general Zod — Michael Shannon, cold and absolutely certain of his cause — tracks the refugee to Earth and issues an ultimatum, Henry Cavill's Clark has to make a choice that can't be undone. Lois Lane, played by Amy Adams, arrives at the story already one step ahead of everyone else.
Snyder and screenwriter David Goyer rebuilt the myth from scratch, trading the primary-colour optimism of earlier adaptations for something heavier — a man genuinely uncertain whether his existence helps or endangers the people he loves. Russell Crowe as Jor-El gets more screen time than the role has ever had, and composer Hans Zimmer replaced the John Williams theme with a new score built around a single repeating motif that grows as Clark does.
