A young chimp named Noa loses his clan to the forces of Proximus Caesar — a brutal warlord played by Kevin Durand who has hijacked Caesar's name to build his own brutal regime. Noa sets out alone across the ruins of the old world, picking up the wise elder Raka (Peter Macon) and a guarded human woman called Mae (Freya Allan). With William H. Macy rounding out the cast as Trevathan, the 145-minute film layers a road-movie structure onto the familiar apes mythology — asking whose version of history gets to survive.

Wes Ball shot the film with an emphasis on location work and physical environments, pulling the franchise back toward grounded adventure after years of studio-heavy sequels.
