Synopsis
Friday (1995) is a cult comedy you can watch online on iFILM, directed by F. Gary Gray and co-written by its star Ice Cube. Produced by New Line Cinema and Ice Cube's own production company, it turned a single afternoon in South Central Los Angeles into one of the most quoted films of the decade.
Craig just got fired — on his day off. His best friend Smokey borrowed a supply of weed from dealer Big Worm to sell, then smoked every bit of it instead. Now they have until ten o'clock that night to come up with two hundred dollars, or things are going to get very unpleasant. Meanwhile the whole block has its own agenda: neighborhood enforcer Deebo shakes down anyone who looks at him sideways, Craig's father (John Witherspoon) dispenses wisdom from the bathroom, and the girl next door played by Nia Long gives Craig exactly one reason to stay home.
Chris Tucker's performance as Smokey launched his career; the film itself spawned two sequels and a franchise. Gray shot everything on location in Inglewood, giving the movie a heat-soaked texture that no studio backlot could fake. Watch Friday (1995) online on iFILM.
