Synopsis
Mufasa: The Lion King (2024) is a Walt Disney Pictures animated adventure you can watch online on iFILM. Director Barry Jenkins — known for Moonlight and If Beale Street Could Talk — takes the franchise back to before Simba's birth, tracing how a nameless orphan cub grew into the king who shaped everything that followed.
Aaron Pierre voices young Mufasa; Kelvin Harrison Jr. plays Taka, the lion who will one day become Scar. Their bond starts as pure brotherhood — two outsiders crossing dangerous terrain with a ragged group of wanderers. Mads Mikkelsen provides the voice of Kiros, the predator tracking them down. The story is framed as a tale told by Rafiki (John Kani) to a young Kiara, voiced by Blue Ivy Carter. Beyoncé and Donald Glover return as Nala and Simba.
The film opened in December 2024 and crossed $720 million at the global box office within weeks, topping the animated film charts for the season. Jenkins brings a dramatic weight to the material that sets it apart from a standard prequel — the real tension sits in watching Taka's path and knowing exactly where it leads.
