Synopsis

Bringing Up Baby (1938) is Howard Hawks' definitive screwball comedy with Cary Grant and Katharine Hepburn, and you can watch online on iFILM. Paleontologist David has spent four years assembling a brontosaurus skeleton and is getting married tomorrow. He has exactly one day left to himself when Susan crashes into his life.

Susan (Hepburn) is a scatterbrained heiress who decides on the spot that David belongs to her, then proceeds to wreck everything he cares about. Add a tame leopard named Baby, a lost dinosaur bone buried by a terrier, and a night in a small-town jail, and the chaos never lets up. Grant plays the flustered straight man, Hepburn plays an unstoppable force of nature, and their overlapping, machine-gun dialogue barely pauses for breath.

The film flopped on release and nearly tanked Hepburn's career, yet decades later it was hailed as the genre's high point — Peter Bogdanovich modeled What's Up, Doc? directly on it. The lines pile on top of each other, the misunderstandings multiply, and the absurdity keeps climbing. If you love old Hollywood comedy at full tilt, stream Bringing Up Baby (1938) online on iFILM.
