Tatort (Scene of the Crime) is a German-language crime series from ARD — watch online on iFILM. It premiered on November 29, 1970, and has been running ever since: more than 1,300 episodes across 57 seasons, still in production.

The format is built around rotating detective teams, each anchored in a different city — Hamburg, Munich, Dortmund, Vienna, Zurich and several others. Every episode is a standalone case, which means the show can renew its cast without rebooting its identity. ARD broadcasts it in Germany, ORF in Austria, and SF1 in Switzerland. Among all the runs, the Schimanski episodes hold a special place: Götz George joined the cast in 1981 as commissioner Horst Schimanski, and those cases — rougher, grittier, harder to categorise — are widely considered the franchise's high point.
