About

Synopsis

Wasabi (2001) is a French-Japanese action comedy you can watch online on iFILM. Jean Reno plays Hubert Fiorentini, a Paris cop whose idea of a polite conversation involves a car chase and a broken jaw.

Nineteen years after his Japanese girlfriend vanished without a word, Hubert flies to Tokyo to settle her estate — and discovers he has a twenty-year-old daughter named Yumi who knew nothing about him. Ryoko Hirosue makes the father-daughter awkwardness genuinely funny, while the plot cranks up fast: a 200-million-dollar inheritance has caught the attention of the local yakuza, and Hubert has exactly one setting for dealing with problems.

Director Gérard Krawczyk, produced by Luc Besson, kept things deliberately light — neon-soaked Tokyo, punchy action, and just enough heart to hold the comedy together. It's not a film that asks much of you, which is precisely the point. Stream Wasabi (2001) online on iFILM for a breezy Friday-night action fix.
