The Stepford Wives
The wives of Stepford have a secret.
Synopsis
The Stepford Wives (2004) is a sci-fi comedy you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Frank Oz and starring Nicole Kidman, Matthew Broderick, Glenn Close, and Christopher Walken. A remake of the 1975 film based on Ira Levin's novel, runtime 93 minutes.
After a very public breakdown, TV executive Joanna (Kidman) and her husband Walter (Broderick) move to Stepford, Connecticut — immaculate houses, immaculate lawns, immaculate wives. Every woman in town is unfailingly pleasant, perpetually groomed, and suspiciously incurious about anything beyond domestic bliss. Joanna and her new friend Bobbie start asking questions.
Frank Oz, working from Paul Rudnick's script, pitches the material as dark comedy rather than straight horror — which means it's funnier and less frightening than the original, and arguably more honest about its targets. Kidman plays well against the town's synthetic perfection. The film is at its best when it stops nudging and just lets the premise be strange. Stream The Stepford Wives (2004) online on iFILM.
