Synopsis

The Net (1995) — watch online this Sandra Bullock tech-thriller on iFILM. Directed by Irwin Winkler, it arrived at the exact moment ordinary people were first logging onto the internet — and promptly asked what happens when someone erases you from every database that says you exist.

Angela Bennett is a freelance systems analyst who barely leaves her apartment. She orders pizza online, fixes bugs remotely, and has almost no paper trail in the physical world. That makes her the perfect target. After a colleague sends her a disk containing a backdoor into classified government systems, her driver's license, credit cards, and identity vanish overnight — replaced by a criminal record in another woman's name. Jeremy Northam plays the man sent to finish the job, charming and patient right up until he isn't.

Released in 1995, the film caught audiences at a precise cultural inflection point, when digital identity was new enough to feel both exciting and terrifying. The tech has aged; the paranoia hasn't. Stream The Net online on iFILM.
