Synopsis
High Tension (Haute tension, 2003) is the French slasher horror you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Alexandre Aja before he made The Hills Have Eyes and Piranha 3D. It arrived as one of the harder entries in the wave of extreme French horror of the early 2000s and earned its reputation quickly.
Marie and Alexia drive out to Alexia's family farmhouse for a quiet weekend. Isolated road, dark fields, a locked house. A stranger knocks. He works through the family with brutal efficiency, loads Alexia into his truck, and disappears into the night. Marie — played by Cécile de France — is still inside. She saw everything. Now she has to decide what to do with that.
Aja builds the tension almost entirely through sound and physical space rather than exposition. De France carries the film on raw endurance — there is very little dialogue once the horror starts, just a woman refusing to give up. The twist at the end has divided audiences since the premiere.
