Synopsis
Orphan (Árva, 2025) — watch online on iFILM. A historical drama from László Nemes, director of the Oscar-winning Son of Saul, this British-French-German-Hungarian co-production runs 132 minutes and is backed by ARTE France Cinéma and Good Chaos.
Budapest, autumn 1957. Soviet tanks rolled through a year ago, and the city is still learning to keep quiet. Twelve-year-old Andor (Bojtorján Barabas) has been raised on a single story: his father is alive, he will come back from the camps, you just have to wait. That story is all Andor has. Then a rough-edged stranger named Berend (Grégory Gadebois) appears at the door, claiming the boy as his son — nothing like the figure from his mother Klára's carefully kept legend. A man who takes up space, demands things, and fits nowhere in the life Andor built around an absence.
Nemes shoots the film the same way he shot Son of Saul — close on one face, the wider wreckage felt but barely shown. The tension is between what a child was told and what he is now forced to see. Stream Orphan (2025) online on iFILM.
