Past Lives

Past Lives (2023) is a Korean-American drama you can watch online on iFILM. Written and directed by Celine Song in her feature debut, it follows two childhood friends from Seoul across twenty-four years and two continents, to a single week in New York where everything unspoken finally has to be said.

Nora (Greta Lee) left Korea as a girl, built a life in the US, married a writer named Arthur (John Magaro). Hae Sung (Teo Yoo) stayed behind, grew up, found her on Facebook twelve years later. They video-called for months, then she cut it off. Now he's flown to New York for one week — just to see. Arthur knows about the visit. All three of them handle it with grace. That's exactly what makes it so hard to watch.

A24 produced the film, and it earned two Academy Award nominations: Best Picture and Best Original Screenplay. Song built the story around the Korean concept of in-yeon — the idea that every crossing of paths carries the weight of lives before — without ever turning it into a lecture.
