Synopsis
The Devil's Own (1997) is Alan Pakula's crime thriller, available to watch online on iFILM. It opens on a wound that never heals: an eight-year-old boy in Northern Ireland watches his father gunned down at the dinner table.
That boy grows into Frankie McGuire (Brad Pitt), one of the IRA's deadliest gunmen. After a brutal firefight with British forces, he's sent to New York to buy a shipment of Stinger missiles. Living under a false name, Frankie boards with Tom O'Meara (Harrison Ford), an Irish-American beat cop with no idea who's sleeping under his roof. An unlikely, almost father-and-son bond forms between them. But the weapons deal starts to unravel, Tom's suspicions sharpen, and both men are pushed toward a side they can't take back.
This was the final film from Pakula, the great architect of 1970s paranoia cinema. Ford and Pitt play it on contrast: weary decency against a fervor that's loaded but never cartoonish villainy. It's for viewers who like grown-up dramas where nobody is cleanly in the right. Stream The Devil's Own (1997) online on iFILM.
