Synopsis
Still Walking (2008) is a Japanese family drama directed by Hirokazu Kore-eda — watch online on iFILM. Hiroshi Abe and Kirin Kiki lead a cast that includes Yui Natsukawa and veteran actor Yoshio Harada. The Yokoyama family returns to the parental home once a year. The occasion never changes: the anniversary of the eldest son's drowning, years ago.
Youngest son Ryota (Hiroshi Abe) arrives with a new wife and her child in tow, an arrangement his father barely tolerates. Mother Toshiko (Kirin Kiki) cooks, and talks — small, quiet sentences that carry years of unspoken things. Nobody argues. That is exactly the point. Kore-eda completed the film in the weeks before his own mother died, and that private weight is visible in every unhurried shot: lunch around a low table, a walk toward the sea, a yellow butterfly at the window.
Produced by TV Man Union and Bandai Visual, the film was later collected by The Criterion Collection as one of the essential works of contemporary Japanese cinema. Stream Still Walking (2008) online on iFILM.
