Synopsis

Get the Gringo (2012) is a razor-sharp crime action film starring Mel Gibson, available to watch online on iFILM. Directed by Adrian Grünberg, with Gibson co-writing and co-producing, the film was shot largely on location in Mexico.

A small-time American crook fleeing across the border with a bag of stolen cash lands straight in El Pueblito — a real-world-inspired Mexican prison that operates less like a correctional facility and more like a self-contained town. Residents run shops, keep families inside the walls, and carry weapons openly. The catch: a dying crime lord needs a liver donor, and every new arrival is a candidate. Gibson's nameless driver ends up protecting a sharp-witted nine-year-old boy who has been groomed as that donor — and turning that bond into a survival strategy.

Peter Stormare and Dean Norris round out a cast that commits fully to the film's grim, deadpan humor. Get the Gringo bypassed wide theatrical release and debuted on Showtime in 2012, which is a shame — it is one of Gibson's most enjoyable late-career performances, lean and unsentimental in a way his bigger studio work rarely is.
