Synopsis

Susanne Lothar and Ulrich Mühe play the parents who slowly grasp that they are trapped and completely at the mercy of their visitors. Arno Frisch and Frank Giering deliver the violence without motivation, without backstory — Haneke refuses to explain or justify. The couple's ten-year-old son is in the next room. There is a bet. There are rules. The night is just beginning.
Shot in Austria, the film is a deliberate provocation about audiences who consume screen violence for entertainment. One character breaks the fourth wall and speaks directly to camera — no accident.
