The Dead Don't Die

The Dead Don't Die (2019) is Jim Jarmusch's zombie comedy you can watch online on iFILM. In the sleepy town of Centerville the dead start clawing out of their graves, and the job of holding them off falls to two deadpan cops and a sword-wielding mortician.

Bill Murray and Adam Driver play local officers who meet the apocalypse roughly the way they would meet an expired parking meter — with a heavy sigh and a few dry lines. Tilda Swinton turns up as the funeral-home owner who handles a katana like a fencing master. Around them parades a roster of familiar faces: Chloe Sevigny, Steve Buscemi, Tom Waits, Danny Glover, Selena Gomez and RZA. The zombies here are less frightening than wistful, shuffling toward whatever they craved in life and muttering the names of things.

Jarmusch shoots not a thrill ride but a slow, absurdist satire: an apocalypse as a metaphor for consumption, a theme song that keeps playing suspiciously often, and characters who half-notice they are stuck in a movie.
