He goes along anyway — partly to keep his father safe, partly because they have almost nothing to say to each other and maybe the miles will help. What follows is a slow, deadpan trip through small-town Midwest America, where old grudges, half-forgotten relatives, and the weight of an ordinary life come into view. June Squibb as Woody's sharp-tongued wife Kate is a revelation in every scene; Bob Odenkirk plays the older brother watching the whole affair with barely contained disbelief.
