Synopsis

Downsizing (2017) is a sci-fi tragicomedy starring Matt Damon you can watch online on iFILM. Norwegian scientists work out how to shrink people to five inches tall, pitching it as a fix for an overcrowded, overheating planet.

There's a catch that sounds like a gift: at miniature scale, your savings buy a mansion in a tiny paradise. Worn down by debt, occupational therapist Paul Safranek and his wife Audrey sign up for the procedure. Then something goes wrong on the day, and Paul wakes into his new small world as someone other than the man he meant to become. In the doll-sized suburb he meets a hard-partying smuggler played by Christoph Waltz and a Vietnamese activist, Ngoc Lan Tran (Hong Chau), who upends what he thought any of this was for. Kristen Wiig and Udo Kier also appear.

Director Alexander Payne (The Descendants, Sideways) opens with sharp consumer satire and lands somewhere quieter — a parable about making a small life count. The film keeps switching genres, and never quite where you expect. Stream Downsizing (2017) online on iFILM.
