Time-traveller Hong Siu-lung has spent twenty years lying low inside the Qin Dynasty while his former disciple — now Emperor — quietly tracks his every move. Then a squad armed with weapons from a future era shows up and ambushes the Emperor's court. Hong and the ruler have no choice but to team up, even though the grudge between them is very much alive. The film keeps the tone sharp and fast: hand-to-hand fights mixed with a running argument about whether saving tomorrow is worth surviving the past.
