Synopsis

Watch Day of the Dead (1985) online — George Romero's third zombie film, shot almost entirely inside a Pennsylvania limestone mine, and the most claustrophobic entry in his Dead series. The tagline promised the darkest day of horror; the film delivered something stranger than that.

A small group of survivors is sealed in an underground bunker in Florida. The military contingent, led by the increasingly unhinged Captain Rhodes, wants order and firepower. The scientists, led by Dr. Logan — the crew calls him Frankenstein — want to study the undead and believes they can be conditioned. Logan's prize subject is a zombie he's named Bub: patient, almost curious, responding to stimuli in ways that complicate every assumption the soldiers have. The real horror here isn't the gore, though Tom Savini's practical effects work remains a benchmark in the genre — it's watching people choose tribalism over survival.

The film underperformed on release after Dawn of the Dead, then spent decades being reconsidered. It's now read as the bleakest and most political of Romero's trilogy. Stream Day of the Dead (1985) in full on iFILM.
