Possession

Possession (1981) is Andrzej Żuławski's cult horror film, available to watch online on iFILM. Back from a long stretch abroad, Mark (Sam Neill) finds his wife Anna (Isabelle Adjani) turned into a stranger who suddenly wants out of the marriage.

Mark sets out to learn the truth and first goes hunting for a lover. What he uncovers is far worse than any affair. Anna spirals into fits that border on the animal, vanishes for days, and keeps something nameless hidden in an empty flat. Żuławski shoots a cold, alienated Berlin pressed up against the Wall, and a marriage falling apart becomes a physical, almost bodily nightmare. Adjani goes all the way out — her subway breakdown is still talked about as one of the most harrowing performances ever put on film.

This isn't a creature feature so much as art cinema about divorce, madness and obsession cranked to an unbearable pitch. Adjani won Best Actress at Cannes for it.
