Naz, a kid from a Pakistani family, borrows his father's cab without asking to reach a party. He meets a young woman instead. By morning she's dead, covered in stab wounds, and Naz wakes with no memory and a pair of handcuffs. A worn-down, eczema-ridden lawyer who has nothing left to lose takes the seemingly hopeless case. Riz Ahmed shows a frightened boy hardening into an inmate inside Rikers Island, while John Turturro handles the defense and Bill Camp plays a methodical detective who distrusts easy answers.

This eight-part miniseries came from Steven Zaillian, who wrote Schindler's List, and director James Marsh. It picked up a stack of honors, with Emmy wins going to both Ahmed and Camp.
