Synopsis

We All Loved Each Other So Much (C'eravamo tanto amati, 1974) — watch online on iFILM. Director Ettore Scola's bittersweet Italian drama spans three decades in the lives of three wartime friends: Nino Manfredi, Vittorio Gassman, and Stefano Satta Flores, with Stefania Sandrelli as the woman all three once loved.

Antonio, Gianni, and Nicola fought together in the Resistance and came out of the war believing Italy would be different. It wasn't — not for them. Twenty years later one patches up hospital patients for a modest wage, one has made himself rich at other people's expense, and one still can't let go of principles that cost him everything. Scola weaves their separate failures into something that refuses to be only sad or only funny.

The film is also a tribute to Italian Neorealism: Marcello Mastroianni and Federico Fellini appear as themselves, and whole scenes pay homage to Vittorio De Sica's Bicycle Thieves. Released in December 1974, it ran 125 minutes and remains one of the most cited Italian films of its era. Watch We All Loved Each Other So Much (1974) online on iFILM.
