The 'Burbs

Then old Walter vanishes without a trace, and a neighborhood rumor curdles into a full-blown obsession that ends with the men breaking in to see for themselves.

Tom Hanks anchors a loose, funny ensemble that includes Bruce Dern, Carrie Fisher, Rick Ducommun, and a teenage Corey Feldman who treats the whole meltdown like front-row entertainment. Dante turns suburban boredom into a sharp little satire where the real danger isn't the creepy house, it's what a bored mind invents. The payoff flips your assumptions completely.
