Synopsis
Emma. (2020) — watch online Autumn de Wilde's adaptation of Jane Austen's 1815 novel on iFILM. Anya Taylor-Joy plays the lead; the cast includes Johnny Flynn, Josh O'Connor, Bill Nighy and Miranda Hart.
Emma Woodhouse is twenty-one, wealthy, and absolutely certain she is the best matchmaker in rural England. She has no interest in marrying — but her new companion Harriet Smith clearly needs guidance. The problem is that Emma's confident interference keeps landing everyone in precisely the wrong situation, while Mr. Knightley (Flynn), the one person who will actually tell her she is wrong, keeps turning up at the most inconvenient moments.
De Wilde came to the film from photography and music videos, and it shows: the English countryside is rendered in pastel symmetry, every interior treated like a composition, every pause held a beat too long for comic effect. Taylor-Joy plays Emma's blind spots as fluently as her wit. It is the sharpest and most visually distinct Austen adaptation in years. Stream Emma. (2020) online on iFILM.
