Synopsis
Spaceballs (1987) is Mel Brooks's sci-fi comedy parody you can watch online on iFILM — a full-throttle skewering of Star Wars, Alien and the entire Hollywood blockbuster machine, shot for $22 million through Brooksfilms and MGM in 96 minutes of non-stop absurdism.
Dark Helmet (Rick Moranis buried inside an enormous black visor) plots to steal the air from planet Druidia. That puts Princess Vespa (Daphne Zuniga) in danger and brings in space-for-hire Lone Starr — Bill Pullman at his most deadpan — alongside his half-man, half-dog sidekick Barf, played with full commitment by John Candy. Brooks himself doubles as the bumbling President Skroob and the ancient sage Yogurt, a pitch-perfect Yoda stand-in who mostly just wants to sell merchandise.
The film's jokes have outlasted its box office run: "ludicrous speed," "we're in now now," and the relentless Merchandising! scene are embedded in pop culture whether you've seen the movie or not. Stream Spaceballs (1987) in full online on iFILM.
