Mel Gibson plays Martin Riggs, a Vietnam-vet detective running on grief and adrenaline, apparently indifferent to whether he survives any given day. His new partner Roger Murtaugh, played by Danny Glover, just turned fifty, has a warm family waiting at home, and wants nothing more than a quiet ride to retirement. Their forced partnership drops them straight into a heroin-smuggling operation run by ex-Special Forces men — led by General McAllister and his lethal enforcer Joshua, played with cold menace by Gary Busey.
