About

Synopsis

The Goonies (1985) is a family adventure you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Richard Donner from a story by Steven Spielberg. Sean Astin, Josh Brolin, Ke Huy Quan, and Corey Feldman lead a squad of Oregon kids one very long afternoon underground.

Their neighbourhood is about to be bulldozed. Then Mikey Walsh finds a hand-drawn map to the treasure hoard of a 17th-century pirate called One-Eyed Willy. The plan: crawl through caverns, dodge booby traps, beat the deadline, save the block. The snag: the Fratelli family — freshly broken out of jail — spots the same map and wants the gold a lot more than they want witnesses. Data brings the gadgets. Chunk brings the screaming. Mouth brings the attitude. Brand just tries to keep everyone alive.

Produced by Amblin Entertainment and Warner Bros. Pictures, the film opened on June 7, 1985 and grossed nearly $70 million against a $19 million budget. Screenwriter Chris Columbus went on to direct Home Alone and the first two Harry Potter films, but this one stayed his most beloved credit for a generation. Forty years on, The Goonies still runs in packed cinemas during anniversary screenings. Stream it online on iFILM.
