Mother Superior, played with magnificent disdain by Maggie Smith, is far from delighted. But Deloris slides onto the organ bench and starts turning the lifeless convent choir into something that sounds like a Saturday-night revival — soul, funk and gospel where there was only dutiful droning before. Kathy Najimy shines as the warmhearted Sister Mary Patrick. Harvey Keitel plays the gangster still hunting Deloris down.
