About

Synopsis

Braindead (1992) is a New Zealand splatter horror-comedy you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Peter Jackson. Made before The Lord of the Rings made Jackson a household name, this WingNut Films production has spent three decades at the top of lists ranking the goriest films ever made. The practical effects crew reportedly used over 300 litres of fake blood in a single day of shooting.

A Sumatran rat-monkey arrives at a Wellington zoo and bites the overbearing mother of meek young Lionel (Timothy Balme). She dies. Then she gets back up. Lionel tries to manage the situation — sedating the undead in his basement, hiding the chaos from his new girlfriend Paquita (Diana Peñalver) — while his scheming Uncle Les smells money in the mayhem.

The final act with a lawnmower is the stuff of genre legend. Peter Jackson co-wrote the script, and the film remains his wildest, most unhinged work. Stream Braindead (1992) online on iFILM.
