Synopsis
Young Frankenstein (1974) is Mel Brooks' cult horror comedy you can watch online on iFILM. Dr. Frederick Frankenstein is so embarrassed by his infamous grandfather that he insists on pronouncing it "Fronkensteen" — until an inheritance in Transylvania drags him back in.
Handed the old man's castle, Frederick (Gene Wilder) sets out to prove that reanimating the dead is nonsense, then stumbles on the baron's working notebook. His helpers don't make it easy: a pop-eyed hunchback named Igor (Marty Feldman) who swears the hump moves around, and lab assistant Inga (Teri Garr). Once the Monster (Peter Boyle) actually sits up, every scene tips into a gag — top hats and a tuxedoed "Puttin' on the Ritz", a bride with a lightning-streaked hairdo.
Brooks shot in black and white on the original 1931 lab equipment and standing sets, so the parody looks like a real Universal horror picture and plays funnier for it. He co-wrote the script with Wilder, and the film earned two Academy Award nominations. Madeline Kahn and Cloris Leachman round out one of the decade's sharpest comedy ensembles.
