Synopsis

Joe Deacon used to be a respected detective until one investigation cost him his career, his marriage and his health. Now a killer is working the city again, and the pattern echoes the unsolved murders from his past. Jim Baxter, a sharp and ambitious young sergeant, takes Deke on as a partner without realizing what ghosts come attached. The trail leads to Albert Sparma, an odd appliance repairman who seems to enjoy being watched — and that is where the calm runs out.
Hancock wrote the script back in the early 1990s, and the film lives in that decade: no cell phones, no DNA databases, just instinct and stubbornness. Three Oscar winners share the screen — Denzel Washington, Rami Malek and Jared Leto, who turns the suspect into a slippery riddle without ever raising his voice.
