Synopsis
A Bronx Tale (1993) is a crime drama and Robert De Niro's directorial debut, available to watch online on iFILM. The Bronx, early 1960s: nine-year-old Calogero watches mob boss Sonny shoot a man dead outside his building over a parking spot. The police come. Calogero says nothing.
That silence buys him a seat at Sonny's table. Chazz Palminteri — who also wrote the screenplay, adapted from his own one-man stage show — plays Sonny as a man who is genuinely fond of the boy and genuinely dangerous. De Niro plays Lorenzo, Calogero's bus-driving father, who watches his son drift toward a world he knows ends in a coffin or a cell. By seventeen, Calogero has a third problem: he's falling for Jane Williams, a Black girl from across the dividing line in the neighborhood.
Produced through Tribeca Productions, the film is drawn from Palminteri's memories of growing up in the same streets. De Niro keeps the period detail precise without turning the Bronx into nostalgia, and the central three-way tension — father, mob boss, and the boy choosing between them — never lets up.
