Synopsis
War Machine (2017) is the Netflix war satire with Brad Pitt, and you can watch it online on iFILM. Pitt plays General Glen McMahon, a gravel-voiced four-star soldier who lands in Kabul fully convinced he can win a war that's been slipping away for the better part of a decade.
The character is a thinly veiled take on the real U.S. commander in Afghanistan, drawn from reporter Michael Hastings' book — the same journalist whose magazine piece eventually cost the general his job. Director David Michôd skips the heroics and films the absurdity instead: endless briefings, PowerPoint decks, the polite chaos of trying to "liberate" a province that never asked. McMahon genuinely wants the win, which is exactly what makes him both funny and doomed. Tilda Swinton, Ben Kingsley and Anthony Michael Hall drop in along the way.
It's a dry, cynical look at the machinery of modern warfare, narrated by a sardonic reporter from the sidelines. Best for fans of straight-faced political satire over a loud action flick. Stream War Machine (2017) online on iFILM.
