Speed (1994) is a Los Angeles-set action thriller directed by Jan de Bont — watch it online on iFILM. LAPD officer Jack Traven, played by Keanu Reeves, gets a call no cop wants: a bomber named Howard Payne (Dennis Hopper) has wired a city bus to detonate the moment its speedometer dips below 50 miles per hour.

Jack jumps onto the moving bus and now has to stop a vehicle he cannot stop. A random passenger, Annie (Sandra Bullock), takes the wheel — her license was revoked, and none of that matters now. The bus tears through downtown LA traffic, past freeway gaps and dead ends, while Jack's partner Harry (Jeff Daniels) scrambles from outside and Payne watches every move through onboard cameras. No detours, no slowdowns, no good options.

Made for $30 million and earning over $350 million at the box office, the film became the defining action thriller of the decade. Director Jan de Bont — best known as the cinematographer of Die Hard — kept the camera relentless and physical throughout all 116 minutes.
