Synopsis
Uncut Gems (2019) is a crime thriller from the Safdie brothers you can watch online on iFILM. At its center sits New York jeweler Howard Ratner (Adam Sandler), a fast-talking gambler buried in debt and adrenaline. He has just gotten hold of a rare black opal from Ethiopia, and he is certain this stone is the score that fixes everything.
Howard pawns the opal, borrows again, bets on basketball, then borrows once more to cover the last bet. His brother-in-law's collectors trail him, NBA star Kevin Garnett (playing himself) wants the gem as a good-luck charm, his wife Dinah (Idina Menzel) is done waiting, and his young employee Julia (Julia Fox) keeps him spinning. Every move he makes opens a fresh hole, and the noose tightens faster than he can talk his way out.
Benny and Josh Safdie made this for A24 with Martin Scorsese producing, and Daniel Lopatin's anxious electronic score never lets the pressure drop.
