Synopsis
Selena (1997) is Gregory Nava's music biopic, available to watch online on iFILM. Jennifer Lopez stars in the role that made her a name, playing Selena Quintanilla Pérez — the Tejano singer who grew up in a Mexican-American family in Texas and became the genre's queen.
Her father Abraham (Edward James Olmos) spots the talent early and puts the kids on small stages as a family act. What follows is years on a battered tour bus, the first awards, and a quiet romance with guitarist Chris Pérez that her father refuses to bless. Chasing a crossover audience, Selena starts recording an English-language album she would never finish. The story ends in mid-climb: she was killed at twenty-three.
Nava made the film soon after, working closely with the real Quintanilla family, so it leans on lived-in detail — kitchens, rehearsals, arguments on the road — rather than grand statements. Lopez lip-syncs to Selena's own vocals and moves with enough force to wake a stadium crowd. Watch it for the rare biopic that feels like a family photo album instead of a polished monument.
