Synopsis
Downfall (Der Untergang, 2004) is a German historical war drama directed by Oliver Hirschbiegel that you can watch online on iFILM. The film draws on the memoir of Hitler's personal secretary Traudl Junge and historian Joachim Fest's research. Swiss actor Bruno Ganz plays Adolf Hitler.
Berlin, late April 1945. Soviet artillery is already audible from the street above. Deep under the Reich Chancellery, Hitler issues orders to divisions that no longer exist and refuses every suggestion of surrender. Young stenographer Traudl Junge (Alexandra Maria Lara) keeps writing it all down — ten days she will spend the rest of her life trying to make sense of. Around her: Eva Braun (Juliane Köhler) in a wedding dress, Magda Goebbels (Corinna Harfouch) who has made a monstrous choice about her children, and generals quietly calculating their odds of survival.
Hirschbiegel builds no courtroom and hands out no verdicts — just a sealed concrete room and the people trapped inside it. The film earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Foreign Language Film. Stream Downfall (2004) online on iFILM.
