Synopsis
Gangs of New York (2002) is Martin Scorsese's crime epic you can watch online on iFILM. A Miramax production with a $100 million budget, the film earned ten Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture and Best Director.
Amsterdam Vallon — Leonardo DiCaprio — walks out of reform school into the Five Points, the most violent neighborhood in mid-19th century Manhattan, with one goal: find the man who killed his father in front of him as a boy. That man is Bill "The Butcher" Cutting, played by Daniel Day-Lewis in a performance that turns a gang leader into something close to an American mythology. Bill doesn't just control the streets; he controls who counts as an American. Cameron Diaz plays Jenny Everdeane, a pickpocket with sharper instincts than either man. Liam Neeson appears as Priest Vallon, the father whose death sets everything in motion.
Scorsese spent two decades trying to get this film made. The backdrop — Manhattan's draft riots of 1863, when poor men burned the city rather than fight a rich man's war — gives the revenge plot a scale that goes well beyond one man and one knife. Stream Gangs of New York (2002) online on iFILM.
