Minority Report

Minority Report (2002) is Steven Spielberg's sci-fi thriller you can watch online on iFILM. Washington D.C., fifty years from now: a police unit called Pre-Crime uses three psychic seers to arrest killers before the crime takes place. Tom Cruise stars as Chief John Anderton, the man who built the system — and trusts it completely, until the day it names him as a future murderer.

Samantha Morton plays Agatha, the most powerful of the three seers; Colin Farrell is a federal investigator closing in on Anderton; Max von Sydow is the director who controls the whole operation. The screenplay draws on Philip K. Dick's 1956 short story, but Spielberg commissioned a two-day think tank of eighteen futurists before a single frame was shot. The result is a 2054 that feels less like a film set and more like a plausible blueprint — personalized advertising, retinal scanners, mag-lev traffic, jet packs.

The film runs 145 minutes and earns every one of them. DreamWorks and 20th Century Fox poured $102 million into the production; global box office returned $358 million.
