Synopsis
Still Alice (2014) is a drama you can watch online on iFILM. Alice Howland teaches linguistics at Columbia and has built her whole life on language. Then the words start slipping away.
It begins small: a name she can't retrieve mid-lecture, a jog through her own neighborhood where the streets suddenly make no sense. The diagnosis is early-onset Alzheimer's, and Alice is only fifty. From there the film tracks how a woman defined by memory and speech loses both, and how her husband John (Alec Baldwin) and three grown children respond — especially her youngest, Lydia, played by Kristen Stewart.
Directed by Richard Glatzer and Wash Westmoreland from Lisa Genova's novel, the story carries extra weight: Glatzer himself was dying of ALS during production. Julianne Moore won the Academy Award for Best Actress for the title role, working in quiet close-ups rather than big speeches. Stream Still Alice (2014) online on iFILM.
