Synopsis
Captain Fantastic (2016) is a drama by Matt Ross you can watch online on iFILM. Viggo Mortensen plays Ben, a father raising his six children deep in the forests of the Pacific Northwest, far from schools, shops and screens.
Ben drills his kids in hunting, rock climbing and philosophy. An eight-year-old here can argue the Bill of Rights, and instead of Christmas the family celebrates Noam Chomsky's birthday. Then the experiment cracks open. The children's mother loses her long fight with illness, and to reach her funeral all seven must leave the woods and meet ordinary America for the first time: malls, in-laws, and the hard question of whether Ben has built a paradise or robbed his kids of a normal life.
Writer-director Matt Ross won the directing prize in Cannes' Un Certain Regard section, and Mortensen earned a Best Actor Oscar nomination for the role. Frank Langella and Ann Dowd round out the cast. Stream Captain Fantastic (2016) online on iFILM.
