Synopsis

Casey Beldon's nightmares start after she discovers she had a twin brother who died before birth. The visions escalate — contorted faces, mirrors that show something wrong, a child who shouldn't be there. When she digs into her family history, she finds a thread leading back to a dybbuk: a Jewish folkloric spirit that needs a living body to exist in the world. Casey tracks down Rabbi Sendak, played by Oldman, as the one person equipped to help her.
Goyer wrote the Dark Knight trilogy screenplays, and The Unborn operates at that same mainstream-genre level: professionally made, not reaching for anything subtle. Its distinguishing feature is the dybbuk mythology — a relatively rare thread in American horror — and a cast that includes both Oldman and Idris Elba, which is more than most films of this type can claim.
