Synopsis

Runaway Jury (2003) is a sharp courtroom thriller adapted from John Grisham's novel — watch it online on iFILM. Director Gary Fleder assembles John Cusack, Gene Hackman, Dustin Hoffman and Rachel Weisz in a single story, which is a rarer casting combination than it sounds.

A New Orleans gun manufacturer is on trial for a mass shooting. Attorney Wendell Rohr, played by Hoffman, is trying the case straight. Opposing him is jury consultant Rankin Fitch — Hackman, reptile-cold — who runs illegal background checks, taps phones, and bribes whoever needs bribing to build a verdict-friendly jury. Then juror Nicholas Easter (Cusack) and his girlfriend Marlee (Weisz) make contact with both sides: they can deliver any verdict, to whoever pays three million dollars first.

Grisham's source novel targeted the tobacco industry; the screenplay swapped it for gun litigation and the story gained an edge in the process. Stream Runaway Jury (2003) online on iFILM.
