Synopsis
Blue Jasmine (2013) is Woody Allen's drama you can watch online on iFILM. When her marriage to a wealthy financier collapses, a New York socialite is left broke and homeless overnight.
Jasmine flies west to San Francisco and squeezes into the small apartment of her adopted sister Ginger, determined to rebuild. It does not go well. She washes pills down with vodka, talks to herself in public and clings to the manners of a life that no longer exists. The past keeps surfacing in fragments: her con-artist husband Hal, his schemes, the people he ruined and her own quiet part in the wreckage. Ginger's blue-collar boyfriend and a smooth diplomat she meets at a party become, by turns, a lifeline and another lie.
Cate Blanchett won the Best Actress Oscar for the role, holding her character somewhere between pity and contempt without tipping into caricature. Allen reworks A Streetcar Named Desire here, dropping Blanche DuBois into the aftermath of the financial crash. Sally Hawkins, Alec Baldwin and Bobby Cannavale round out the cast.
