AD 117. Quintus Dias is the only man left standing after a Pictish war party overruns his frontier fort. He falls in with General Virilus' Ninth Legion, pushing deep into Caledonia on orders to destroy the Pict chieftain Gorlacon. The legion walks into a trap. Most die. The survivors — seven men, no map, no reinforcements — have one goal: get back south before a relentless Pictish tracker named Etain hunts them down one by one.

Marshall, who directed The Descent, shot on Scottish and Snowdonian location and kept the film deliberately bleak: mud, cold, and no clean heroism.
