The Gift

The Gift (2015) is a psychological thriller you can watch online on iFILM. Simon and Robyn move to California for a fresh start, and in a furniture store a stranger recognizes Simon. The husband barely remembers him.

His name is Gordo — an old schoolmate. Polite, quiet, a little off. He starts leaving presents on the doorstep, dropping by uninvited, showing up when Simon is out. Robyn (Rebecca Hall) feels sorry for him first, then uneasy, then she notices her husband lying about whatever passed between these two men years ago. Jason Bateman trades his usual comic charm for something cold and ugly, and Gordo, played by Joel Edgerton, is neither villain nor victim but an open question the film refuses to close early.

This was Edgerton's debut as a director; he also wrote the script and played Gordo, a triple role that holds the picture together instead of pulling it apart. The ending doesn't twist the plot so much as twist who you trusted. Stream The Gift (2015) online on iFILM.
