Synopsis
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (卧虎藏龍, 2000) is Ang Lee's martial-arts drama — watch online on iFILM. Chow Yun-Fat and Michelle Yeoh play two warriors whose feelings for each other have been locked away behind duty and silence for years.
A legendary sword called Green Destiny goes missing. The trail leads to Jen (Zhang Ziyi), a governor's daughter who fights like a ghost and has been secretly studying a forbidden combat style from the fugitive killer Jade Fox (Cheng Pei-Pei). Jen is caught between the marriage her family arranged and the open road she craves. The action sequences — choreographed by Yuen Woo-ping — unfold across rooftops, bamboo canopies, and the surface of a lake.
Shot across Taiwan, mainland China and Hong Kong, the film earned over $213 million worldwide and became the highest-grossing foreign-language film in US box-office history at the time of its release. At the 2001 Academy Awards it won four Oscars: Best Foreign Language Film, Best Cinematography, Best Art Direction and Best Original Score, the last composed by Tan Dun.
