Training Day

The whole film takes place in a single shift. Rookie narcotics officer Jake Hoyt (Ethan Hawke) rides with veteran detective Alonzo Harris (Denzel Washington) through South Central Los Angeles. Alonzo knows every dealer, every corner, every unwritten rule of the streets. He also operates well outside the law — and he makes that clear within the first hour. Jake has to figure out whether he's watching a highly effective cop, a criminal in a badge, or something harder to define. By the time the sun goes down, the question stops being academic.
